Like Jazz? be a co-Producer in Elizabeth’s CD!

Imagine if we could co-produce the music we like. If musicians could get their music published based on their talent and not based on how much money they have or who they know. If you and I had a say on making available the music we like, even if it is from little-known talented working musicians whom we give a chance to publish their music. These days, we don’t have to be a big record-label producer to make our mark. This is our chance!

In a recent post I commented on the “democratizing” force of technoloty in music, by lowering the cost of producing a record and enableing social networking for marketing. Still for a working musician, it takes some capital to get a recording out. Technology can serve to connect us, the music aficionados, to the musicians working to release an album. You have a first hand opportunity to see this in real action!

Elizabeth! Performing in Seattle

Elizabeth! Jazz, as she is artistically known, is an excellent, Harvard-educated jazz singer and trombonist which I had the opportunity to meet here in the Seattle area. She is a working musician, trying to get her 2nd CD off the ground. For this purpose, Elizabeth is tapping her friends and fans to pony-up for covering the budget, however low, needed to get the recording completed.

Let’s be Elizabeth’s co-Producers:

Technology and the Web 2.0 social networking sites allow us to level the playing field in the music industry. As listeners and music fans, we get access to a wider variety of music than before these tools were available. We get to learn about artist we didn’t know, simply because a friend of a friend mentioned it in Facebook, and we can check out free samples of their music in their MySpace site. If we like the sample songs, we can choose to follow the artist in Twitter and buy their CDs (or download them from iTunes or Zune Marketplace).

I like to see the “democratization” force of technology in music put into action right now! Participate in a “case-study” of spreading the word through our online social networks and be able to gather enough funds to get the CD released. With a modest contribution, we can get an autographed CD and appear on the album liner credits! But more importantly, we will have participated in the use of technology to get a talented musician’s CD released! Isn’t this something worth tweeting about?

How can you be a co-Producer?

Are you with us? Ok, by helping fund the album we are not becoming “co-producers”; perhaps we could call ourselvs “co-sponsors”. But we are selecting an artist to sponsor and help get their music published. Elizabeth! used another web tool I didn’t know to collect the funds. You basically do a “pledge” and it will only be debited from your account if the targeted amount is reached.  This site is called “kickstarter.com”.

You can find Elizabeth! funding site HERE!

Elizabeth! web site is www.elizabethjazz.com , and her MySpace HERE!

The fundraising is only until November 30th. Lets see if we can  make this happen! Pass the word on Twitter, Facebook, email, in-person, etc. If you participate, you’ll know the outcome. I’ll post a blog of the outcome of this event the 1st week of December.
