Christmas Vacation without Internet
Posted on 23. Dec, 2009 by Hector Aviles in Blog
On taking the first significant time-off from work in a year, I took a 4-week vacation to travel to see our families in Puerto Rico and Mexico. In Puerto Rico, something has changed at my mom’s house phone lines which won’t allow data to flow. So, it has been both a blessing and a curse not having access to internet.
One negative aspect of not having internet access is not being able to blog. I had planned on increasing my blog writing as I would have plenty of time to do so. The last days before leaving on vacation did not allow much time to blog, as I used all my time off work to go through the long list of trip preparations. I had planned plenty of blog themes to write about in December, and I’m a bit disappointed on not being able to share all the themes around Christmas Latin music, particularly here in what I consider the capital of Christmas Latin music, Puerto Rico.
But no internet access has also been a blessing. I work connected to the cloud all the time, and go home to sometimes to more work on the internet, as when paying bills, reading personal email, and blogging, among many other things. Some of those other things include compare shopping, read reviews of things I’m thinking to buy, read other blogs, download music and podcasts to my Zune, etc. After an intense 2009, in which only once I took consecutive vacations days (and that were 3 vacation days in August) it’s great to be disconnected and be able to spend that time with my daughters and family, and not in front of a screen. I have also been able to read a bit more.
There is internet access in my sister’s house in Caguas, so I hope to send this blog out when I remember to take my PC with me when I visit here. I have been there several times, but my plan did not include sitting in front of a PC to blog. I will also have internet access where we’ll be staying in Mexico, so it will be easier to blog from there. We’ll be in Mexico for New Year’s and Three Kings Day (“Dia de Los 3 Reyes Magos”) so may read more from me then.
Feliz Navidad!
