4 New Ways You Can Create, Find, and Consume Music

In the past weeks there have been several articles in the news regarding new technologies which bring new ways to create, find, and consume music. You read Latino Music Cafe because as me, you like music and it’s an important part of your life. I therefore want to share with you these new technologies that provide us new choices.
1. KIN Phone – listen to Zune Marketplace streaming music: Microsoft announced about a month ago the KIN cell phone. The phone has many features, but I’m just going to focus on the one that provides a new way to listen to music. Microsoft included the Zune Marketplace as part of the KIN software. This means that if you are subscribed to the Zune Pass, you can then download or stream your favorite music from the Zune Marketplace into the KIN. This virtually makes the KIN a Zune music player. Add some headphones for you KIN phone, and you’re all set to listen to your favorite music on your phone. Many other smartphones have music players in their software which enable you to copy or sync your favorite music from your PC to the phone. But this phone will let you stream or download music from any artist in the Zune Marketplace, as long as you have an active Zune Pass. It’s been rummored that this feature may also be included in the upcoming Windows Mobile 7. You can learn more about the KIN phone HERE.
2. Melodeo – Music Streamed to Your Device: just today I read that Hewlett Packard (HP) bought a Seattle company called Melodeo. Melodeo delivers music and other media to the web and to mobile devices. It will be interesting to see how HP decides to combine this service with its products to provide new ways to consume music. The difference with the Zune Pass is that for Melodeo you may have to own or purchase the music you want to stream to your device, as with the Zune Pass your pay a monthly fee for the rights to consume as much music from the Zune Marketplace catalog as you want. You can learn more about Melodeo HERE.
3. Bing Update – find lyrics, listen to music free: Also this week (3rd week of June 2010) Microsoft announced the update to their search engine Bing. One of the new features is a new Entertainment section. In this section, you can more easily search for song lyrics and also listen to searched music free. The way I understand this works is that when you search for a song, say Ray Barretto’s “Cocinando”, Bing will provide you the results, and the choice of listening to the track for free once. For this it goes to the Zune Marketplace and gives you a 1 time opportunity to listen to the song. I think this is great if you are considering buying an album (I try to avoid referring to a music album as a CD, as most people now download music, rather than purchase a physical CD). You can check out the new Bing Entertainment section HERE.
4. Aviary - new free online music software: I found this article in the New York Times about Aviary, which is a software company with already has various products. Recently they introduced an application called Music Creator, in which supposedly you can create music even if you don’t have musical training. You can read the full article HERE.
Things are changing quickly and now it’s good to keep up to date on what is happening in technology as it clearly provides us more choices on how to create, find, and consume music.
Do you know of any other new technology worth sharing? If so, or if you just want to comment on the any of the above technologies, please leave a comment in the section below.
