Ruben Blades with NPR and Wynton Marsalis

My friend Bart Goft sent me a link to an interview Ruben Blades just did with NPR, and I also found a review of his recent performance with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

I’m a fan of Ruben Blades and thought it would be interesting to share these 2 pieces of information regarding Ruben, who this week is up for two Latin Grammy Awards.

Ruben Blades Interview with NPR

Latin music star Ruben Blades released “Tangos” earlier this year and is nominated for 2 Latin Grammy Awards.

NPR’s Weekend Edition host Scott Simon recently interviewed Ruben Blades (I’m not sure if it was before or after the interview with Bill Cosby), where they talked mostly of his Latin Grammy-nominated album “Tangos” and his future in politics.

Here is the short (just over 7 minutes) interview with Ruben on NPR.

New York Times Review of Ruben Blades with Wynton Marsalis

The New York Times wrote a review of Ruben Blades’ performance at the Rose Theater with Wynton Marsalis’ Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. This is a performance that seems capable of making a great live record so that those of us that were not able to attend could still enjoy a rare performance like this one.

Ruben sang some American standards (I’m sure they sounded much better than Oscar D’Leon’s in “Classics of Big Band”) and a couple of his own hits.

Enjoy!
