Berklee College of Music student Jacinta Clusellas wrote, plays guitar, and sings “El Pájaro Azul” (The Blue Bird), a song inspired in a peom by Ruben Darío.

As you know, I like to occasionally highlight new talent in this Latin music blog. Luckily, the Berklee College of Music has provided me a window into some of the Latino talent there.

Jacinta Clusellas performs “El Pájaro Azul”, a beautiful song with a creative musical arrangement.

As Jacinta explains in the YouTube video notes, “El Pájaro Azul” is based on the poem of the same name written by Nicaraguan poet Ruben Darío. Darío is considered the father of Spanish-American literary modernism.

As Jacinta explains, “El Pájaro Azul tells the story of Garcín, a young poet, who was brilliant and very creative. However, he also struggled with life. He said, ‘there is a blue bird, inside the cage of my brain, who is trapped and want’s his freedom.'”

“Jacinta believes that we all have a blue bird trapped inside our heads. She hopes this music will help all those blue birds fly. ‘If you can’t find the door to let your blue bird out, you’ll have to learn how to fly'”.

Music of El Pájaro Azul

I loved Jacinta’s creative writing of the song. I also liked the elaborate musical arrangement, which had the participation of 13 musicians.

However, I found that the music almost drowned the singing as I struggled to hear the lyrics through the music. The video provides English subtitles to the lyrics, which helped me to decipher the Spanish lyrics I struggled to hear.

Despite this, I loved the creativity of the music and the song message. Jacinta has a beautiful voice and intellectual taste for song-writing, all of which I find refreshing and encouraging in a young talent.
