Bio Ritmo Delivers Salsa on NPR Tiny Desk

Not many times do you see a Salsa band in NPR’s Tiny Desk concert video-series, but the Virginia-based Salsa band Bio Ritmo delivered 3 Salsa cuts in the cramped space.

By the way, this set was recorded on September 2014 (so it’s not new), shortly after the release of their 8th recording “Puerta del Sur”. Led by Marlysse Simmons on piano, with Rei Alvarez on vocals, Bio Ritmo performes “La Via”, “Picaresco”, and “Perdido” all from “Puerta del Sur”.

Bio Ritmo was formed in 1991 and has a format of trumpets, trombone, and sax, the percussion of conga, bongo, and timbal, and the rhythm section of piano and bass. With 24 years playing their original Salsa mix of son, bomba, plena, electronica, and any other thing might think off, the Salsa band continues to turn heads and get recognized.

Enjoy the 3-song set.
