The trio of musicians called Sonido Tré just released their EPK “Tributo a Juan Luis Guerra“, which includes four standards of the Dominican icon.

Sonido Tre Tributo a Juan Luis Guerra cover
Sonido Tre EPK Tributo a Juan Luis Guerra contains beautiful covers of 4 songs.

This is the 3rd recording of Sonido Tré, which was formed about 10 years ago. Sonido Tré is integrated by three Puerto Rican artists. They include pop singer Mayda Belén, her husband and outstanding cuatro player Quique Domenech, and gifted singer Edgar Ríos.

As described in their Facebook page, “Tré is a fusion of pop and Latin music. The group emphasizes the blending of voices accompanied by the Puerto Rican “cuatro” player thus creating a unique musical concept which is unparalleled.”

“Tributo a Juan Luis Guerra”

Of the three recordings by Sonido Tre, “Tributo a Juan Luis Guerra” is the shortest one. This EPK only includes 4 songs, compared to 12 for “Tré en Vivo” (2015) and 10 in “Sonido Tré” (2014).

This is too bad, as all four songs included in this EPK are exceptionally well done. The combination of the voices of Mayda and Edgar, along with the cuarto of Quique, provide for an enjoyable listening experience. The combined voices of Mayda and Edgar remind us of the sound of voices in Juan Luis Guerra‘s 440.

The four songs included are “Ojalá Que Llueva Café“, “Estrellitas y Duendes“, “No Aparecen“, and “La Bilirrubina“.

A Good Tribute

The EPK classification is true to the length of the recording. Yet, after enjoying the four songs included, one just stays with the same sensation as when you get a small taste sample of exquisite food, and it awakes the desire for a full plate.

You can certainly enjoy the excellent “Tributo a Juan Luis Guerra“, but we warned you’ll probably go back to the previous Sonido Tré recordings for more of their music.
